Pilgrims or Puritans?

Can the GOP be reformed or must it be replaced?  There are many opinions but few certainties.  Roseann Saalnitri looks back across the centuries to decisions that led, through the twisting paths of history, to the founding of our Republic.

Fred Thompson on the Lessons of Watergate

Fred Thompson was the GOP attorney for Watergate.  He reminds us that Nixon was neither the first president nor the last to use the FBI, etc., against political opponents.  (National Review Online.)

Abusing the Power of the Presidency

Barack Obama is making a specialty of the opposite kind of abuse of power: refusal to "take Care that the Laws be fe faithfully executed" as the Constituton demands.  (John Yoo at National Review Online.)

Obama and Pelosi: Amend the First Amendment!

It's no secret that Obama finds it inconvenient that our Constitution prescribes a government of law, not of men.  (Stephanie Hessler at Town Hall.)  But now his allies are calling for the First Amendment to be amendeded, to make it possible to silence voices they don't like.  The target of their effort is the Citizen's United ruling, which says that the government can't prohibit political speech just because the speakers are organized as a corporation (or a labor union).

Mitch McConnell has an interview on The Wun's efforts at The Daily Caller and another at Hot Air.  (Neither player can be embedded.)  While the likelyhood of "The People's Rights Amendment" passing in the near term is near nil, bad ideas tend to grow more palatable over time.  It's important that any elected official, federal or state, who refuses to pledge to vote against such an Amendment be called out and defeated, soundly and roundly.  This includes Madame Pelosi, who would deny speech to all corporations except the left-leaning media.

Does Gingrich's Backer Have $100,000,000 for Romney?

Sheldon Adelson, who contributed tens of millions of dollars to support Newt Gingrich's failed campaign for the presidency, is considering substantial donations to the defeat of Barack Obama.  (Forbes by way of Hot Air.)

Rand Paul: Why I Am Endorsing Mitt Romney in the General Election

An interview with Peter Schiff:

Rand Paul: A Bill to Require Warrants for Domestic Drones:

Senator Rand Paul, R-Ky, has introduced has introduced Senate Bill s3287 , the Preserving Freedom From Unwarranted Surveillance Act, which would require a warrant for domestic surveillance using an unmanned aircraft except in cases of border crossing or immediate threat to human life, or in cases of a terrorist attack.

Drones: Life Imitates Art

Chris Muir, author of Day by Day Cartoon, recently did a storyline on a drone gone astry.  (If you're a Second Amendment supporter, you really have to read it.)  Almost before it finished, word came of a Navy drone that had to be collected from I-270 by the Maryland State Police, who were instructed to deliver it to NAS Patuxent River.  Good thing the Maryland S.P. are a friendly force.

For Greater Glory Author Speaks

Ruben Quezada, author of the book For Greater Glory, from which the film was made, joins Ed Morrisey at Hot Air.  The player doesn't allow embedding, but Quezada comes on at 31:55.  There's a lot of background to the movie in the interview, and Ed and Ruben discuss the HHS contraception mandate, which was imposed as the film was in its final editing stages.

Owl-Eye reviewed the movie For Greater Glory here.  The book For Greater Glory is available from Amazon.  (As usual, a purchase through one of our Amazon links will earn us a commission.)

Reagan's Sign of the Cross Speech

Yes, he said Tear down this wall!  But Ronald Reagan said something else in that speech, something that embarassed the Left even more.  (From Ken Blackwell at Town Hall.)

Victor Davis Hanson on The Liberal Supernova

Over at PJ Media VDH writes about the socialist takeover of the Democratic Party.  You may want to compare his essay to Owl-Eye's.

The Lipstick Index

Katie Keiffer over at TownHall presents the Lipstick Index: you know you are in a recession (or worse) when lipstick sales take the place of durable-goods sales.  And there are hard numbers!

Romney 269, Obama 243?

From The Weekly Standard, analysis of Rasmussen results.  The American Enterprise Institute has even better numbers.

My Favorite Character in All of History ...

Sometimes the best part comes at the end.  Here is one of Bill Whittle's excellent videos.  I've cut to the end, to the two minutes of pure inspiration. After you watch it, feel free to go back to the beginning:
