A Deficit of Leadership

The United States has an abundance of many things in the political arena. We have plenty of opinion. Of bloviating. Of spending. Of borrowing money, kicking the can down the road, redistribution of wealth, demonizing "the rich" (whoever they are), "DWTS" drones, and non-thinkers. These are problems, and are themselves symptoms of deeper problems.

None of these things-of-which-we-have-plenty will help solve today's problems. None will get us back to our founding principles.

What is in extremely short supply, and what we need desperately, is leadership.  Leadership in Congress  -  the House and the Senate.

Not dyspeptic pols who refuse to debate legislation, and who blame others for their failures, paint distorted pictures...then propagandize from bully pulpits.

For example: Harry Reid just refused to allow "Cut Cap and Balance" to be debated on the Senate floor. What does he fear about debate? That people might hear the truth? That people might see the seamy side of the political process again and throw ALL the bums out this time? Polls show 66% of Americans support the "Cut Cap and Balance" plan - many of them Democrats and independents. Reid called "Cut Cap and Balance" "some of the worst legislation in the history of this country."  Really, Harry?

What planet did Reid come from, to be so disconnected from his voting base?

What will come next? A "compromise"? A "Plan B" like "The McConnel Plan"? The plan from "The Gang of Six?"

Recall that ALL of these plans, including "Cut Cap and Balance" include raising the deficit, which a vast majority of Americans do NOT want to happen. We The People, regardless of party it seems, recognize that the debt limit is a necessary cap on spending. Washington, alas, has yet to see this.

Harry Reid does not realize this. Harry Reid is typical of the politcial class. He is not interested in representing his constituents, the American people. He is only interested in power.

Where have we heard this: Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

It is time for leadership. Not what passes as "leadership" by the clueless so-called "representatives" or their mainstream captive pundits in Washington, who long ago sold their souls to special interests or live in abject fear of not going along to get along. it's time for a real leader, not someone who temporarily "turns right" and "talks tough" (hello Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry) in order to get elected. A real leader, not a politically-correct fop who parrots cliches aimed to harvest benefit from the latest poll results.

We do not have such leaders representing us today. It is time to primary the lot of them. Republicans, Democrats alike.

Patriots, the country is literally dying for lack of leadership to restore it. Accept it, or be the agent of restoration by primarying incumbents.

OWL-EYE OPINION: CALL HIS BLUFF, GOP

Opinion courtesy of Owl-Eye Pundit, who observes:

From hotair.com today: http://hotair.com/archives/2011/07/18/breaking-white-house-threatens-veto-of-cut-cap-and-balance-bill/

The bill combines a debt ceiling increase with the procedural caps and the Balanced Budget Amendment (Full text: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h112-2560).

Ed Morrissey concludes that the GOP has won by forcing Obama to declare that he will not sign a bill that includes the Balanced Budget Amendment.  Actually, he thinks it goes beyond that, and I'm inclined to agree with him.  Not that it will do much good, but I'm going to call Pallone's office and tell him I want him to support it.
