Tea and Turpentine

Now, you know I just had to stay away from the whole "birther" thing or the royal wedding, so I picked another topic.

Socialism and the Tea Party.  How's that?

What an interesting mix.  Tea and turpentine.

We had a visitor recently, a very young fellow who is running for Monmouth County Freeholder....as a Socialist.

Why such a visit?  Well, we had all the Republican candidates come to be vetted, and offered Amy Mallet, the Democrat in the race, to come as well.  She declined.

When we heard about this Socialist, we thought we would give him the same opportunity and that it would be very interesting.

It was.

It turns out that Pat, the candidate, is a very bright, polite and respectful young man. Of course we in the Tea Party were left scratching our heads in wonder at some of his answers.

Without giving you any details of his answers, just imagine everything being the opposite of what our answers would be.

Interestingly enough, his concerns and frustrations are the same as ours.   He does not like Obama, Pelosi and Reid.  He has issues with illegal immigration.  The problem is, that he feels that the solution to all the problems we have is to "fix it".

Hmmmm....fix it.   Duct tape? Hammer (and sickle) and nails?  Glue, perhaps?   Reform and "fix it" sound like good things to do, but HOW?  As we thought, Pat could not really give us any remedies to these issues that we face.

He believes in redistribution of wealth and a trickle up economy.

Now, I know from personal experience that the immigration system is not without flaws, but I do believe we need to close the borders until we figure out what "fix it" means.
Pat mentioned how America is supposed to be the land for everyone to come to.  Well, yes.....LEGALLY.

Pat, we have terrorists, drug lords, people with diseases, people who pay no taxes.

We are broke and cannot feed, clothe and take care of people who don't work or don't pay their share of taxes.

I mean yes, we are all for immigration, it's the illegal part we have a problem with.

Does America stand for people coming here to feel that if you don't believe in their religion, you should die?  That they should blow up our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children and friends?

We believe in freedom of religion, not "it's our religion or die".   Because of these dangers, we need to be very careful of who enters this country.

As nice as Pat was, he  brought an older man with him that really got my knickers in a knot. He came in here with an attitude and at any comment or interruption, he "harrrumphed" and mumbled under his breath... a few times even stating out loud that we were without decorum.  He was ridiculous.  I can almost understand how someone as young as Pat can be fooled by the teachings of Socialism, but a man in his 60's?  Uggh.

I wished that I had told him that if he feels we should pay more taxes for those that are less fortunate.... write a check!  The government will never turn away a check.

I would love to know if he would haul his big ole Socialist butt to Alabama to help the people there.

If he does, remind me to tell him to bring the duct tape!  There, it would actually be useful!

(note: please donate to help the people of Alabama - see info on our website)
